The National Australia Day Council (NADC) is providing Australian councils up to $30,000 in grants to deliver events that allow their communities to reflect, respect and celebrate on Australia Day 2022.

NADC CEO Karlie Brand, said, “Australia Day 2022 is a day to reflect on being surrounded by friends, family and community. It is a day to respect that for many, these simple pleasures have been hard earned.”

“Australians are a resilient people – we roll up our sleeves to help others and we unite to overcome any challenge. Australia Day 2022 is a day to celebrate the simple act of being together.”

Brand said Australia’s local government sector played a vital role in Australia Day, delivering hundreds of events from Welcomes to Country to citizenship ceremonies, from morning teas to multicultural festivals.

“Just as we’re all part of the story, Australian councils all have an essential role in our national day.

“The National Australia Day Council is delighted to be providing $7.4 million in grants to fund hundreds of Australia Day 2022 events that bring communities together to reflect, respect and celebrate – from Welcomes to Country to citizenship ceremonies, from morning teas to multicultural festivals.”

Australia Day event hosts can apply for up to $20,000 to deliver events that use the National Australia Day Council’s ‘Reflect. Respect. Celebrate. We’re all part of the story.’ branding.

Applicants that collaborate with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to incorporate activities that reflect and respect the history of local indigenous people and celebrate their culture will be eligible to apply for an additional $10,000.

In 2021, the National Australia Day Council provided 416 grants totalling more than $7 million, allowing Australians in every state and territory to get together and reflect, respect and celebrate.

Applicants will need to detail how they plan to display Australia Day-branded ‘Reflect. Respect. Celebrate. We’re all part of the story.’ promotional material and collateral.

They will also need to provide information on how the event will comply with their state or territory’s COVIDSafe regulations and have contingency plans should public health restrictions prevent in-person events on Australia Day 2022.
