Laneway into plaza
The transformation of Little Timor Street, Coonabarabran is one step closer as Warrumbungle Shire Council, New South Wales, appoints contractors to undertake the project.
Mayor, Ambrose Doolan, said, “Funding was received from the New South Wales Government’s Streets and Shared Spaces fund to transform Little Timor Street on the western side of John Street, Coonabarabran, into a vibrant shared street plaza.
“This unique space will be a wonderful open place for community members and visitors to enjoy, enhancing their experience in Coonabarabran.
“To transform this laneway into a safe and vibrant shared space the road will be closed to through traffic, however the road surface will not be disturbed.”
Plans include a deck structure constructed over the road surface and on the western end of Little Timor Street with synthetic grass laid to create a relaxed setting. A stage on the western end will encourage outdoor performances and the outdoor setting will be complemented by tables and seating, two shelters, railing and a wall mural, the mayor said.
“The Coonabarabran Town Beautification Committee has given advice on the project to design a space that will create a public outdoor place for people to enjoy, while enhancing the individuals’ experience of shopping, dining or working in the Coonabarabran central business district.
“It will be incredible to see the transformation of this laneway and I am excited to see the community using and interacting with this special space.”
