The importance of good fleet management*

Effective fleet management is critical.

Firstly, fleets are valuable assets in their own right and a fleet can account for a significant part of an organisation’s budget.

Secondly, the fleet impacts directly on service delivery. A fleet that is fit-for-purpose, safe and reliable, supports effective operations and the delivery of corporate goals.

Finally, there are specific legislative obligations on the operators of fleets such as Workplace Health and Safety and Chain of Responsibility.

Breaches can lead to significant penalties for senior management and reputational damage for the organisation.

The challenge is while technology and regulatory compliance is increasing, there are continual budget pressures and the need to do more with less.

To achieve this, fleet managers need to be equipped with the knowledge, skills and resources to meet these challenges.

The Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia (IPWEA) mission is to provide training, resources and networks that help fleet managers meet challenges and prepare for the future.

With this in mind, IPWEA will run its annual Australasian Fleet Conference as a virtual event on 23-24 March 2021.

Why virtual?

COVID-19 has affected the way we interact.

The pandemic is by no means over and further restrictions on travel and gatherings may make face to face events unviable.

Yet we still need to stay in touch with others in the industry, remain current and develop our skills and knowledge.

A virtual format, provides a number of benefits:

  • the ability to attend live sessions and revisit or catch up sessions you missed for 30 days post event
  • lower registration pricing and no travel costs
  • greater access for remote delegates
  • staying in touch with industry colleagues
  • access to exhibitors or sponsors, and
  • no risk of the event being cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Delegates will hear from a host of eminent speakers in their field and the virtual format has allowed for the inclusion of a greater number of international speakers from the United States of America, Europe and Britain.

In addition, industry specialists and practicing fleet managers will cover a range of topics from information systems and fleet safety to electric vehicles and financial efficiency plus more. The conference includes a virtual expo and networking.

The IPWEA Australasian Fleet Conference is organised by the fleet industry for the fleet industry, great value and a practical way to help fleet practitioners get the most out of their fleets.
