Innovative design by local request
Burdekin Shire Council has installed a state-of-the-art new swing design at Coutts Park playground, allowing parents and their young children to enjoy the facilities together.
The You & Me swing, installed by Australian ‘destination playground’ designers Urban Play, features one standard seat for an adult which faces a baby seat, so that parents can face their children and enjoy the playground experience together.
Mayor, Lyn McLaughlin, said the You & Me swing was selected for the playground upgrade thanks to the power of social media.
“A resident contacted Council’s Facebook page suggesting we consider swings of this design, and I’m very proud to have seen this request progress from a Facebook comment to a completed project.
“Urban Play are leaders in their field, with a mission to build playgrounds that aren’t just a distraction for children, but a destination in themselves.
“Council is incredibly excited to bring modern and inclusive facilities such as this to the Burdekin, and we hope it encourages even more locals and visitors to get outdoors and explore our Shire.”
The Coutts Park restoration is one of many infrastructure projects completed while access to facilities was restricted over the past several months.
“I’m very proud of our Council crews who have worked tirelessly to improve our Shire’s roads, footpaths, drainage, parks and playgrounds while visitation has been restricted, and am sure their hard work will be recognised by the facilities’ regular users.”
