Holistic approach to foster employee wellbeing
Lake Macquarie City Council, New South Wales, is taking an all-inclusive approach to fostering employee wellbeing and strengthening organisational productivity.
Initially launched in 2017, the Council’s Wellbeing Framework provides the tools to support Lake Macquarie Council employees to be the best version of themselves when it comes to health and wellbeing.
Council’s Manager People, Culture and Risk, Kellie Reeves, said the Wellbeing Framework takes a holistic approach to health, bringing together workplace initiatives to improve wellbeing across eight areas: physical, emotional, intellectual, environmental, financial, social, occupational, and spiritual.
“Council employees have access to a range of wellbeing initiatives including the corporate fitness program, access to in-house yoga and Pilates classes, the Employee Assistance program, weight management and quit smoking programs, annual flu vaccinations, skin checks and more,” Ms Reeves said.
“We’re also proud to be promoting the importance of mental health with our staff, through targeted training to help employees recognise and respond to mental illness, and access to a Wellbeing Resource Kit.
“Another popular feature of the Wellbeing Framework has been the introduction of an annual program of wellbeing events, which features a line-up of guest presenters to help promote various wellbeing and development aspects with our employees.
“Last month’s Wellbeing Event focused on the very relevant topic of generational differences in the workforce and how we can all foster positive working relationships.
“We run these Wellbeing Events at both our Administration and Depot facilities, as well as publishing a video of the session on our intranet, so that all employees are either able to attend or have access to the event.
“It makes good sense to provide tools and resources that enable all our employees to enhance their professional and personal development. By recognising the importance of wellbeing in the workplace, we can support continued levels of employee engagement and keep delivering great service to our customers with high
levels of productivity.
