The Pavilion Kiama offers surf and turf as well as wedding bells*

It’s been a whirlwind start to 2017 for staff at the Pavilion Kiama hosting world surfing champions, Australia Day celebrations and Kiama Show as well as the usual business seminars and wedding receptions.

“This January has been particularly busy with several big ticket events such as the World Surf League Junior World Championships,” said Jackie Hall, Event & Conference Marketing Coordinator at the Pavilion Kiama.

Ms Hall said hosting the launch of the Junior World Championships, which were staged at nearby Bombo Beach, gave the Pavilion and Kiama in general worldwide exposure.

“We had the World Surf League (WSL) organisers staging a full launch and press conference attended by sports media and young surfers from across the world.”

No sooner had the surfing wrapped up than Jackie and her colleague Hope Prosser were organising the set up for the gala Australia Day Awards night hosted by Kiama Council.

“We had hundreds of guests with many VIPs; an audio-visual show; the awards ceremony itself; entertainers including a large male choir and all the catering as well.

“Then the Kiama Show came straight after Australia Day and the Show Society has been using the Pavilion for nearly half its 169 years, so it’s a very important event on our calendar.

“To finish it all off we had the University of NSW School of Mathematics and Statistics Conference, with receptions, three days of conferencing and a gala dinner.

“So it’s added up to a quite varied start to the year, which I think shows the versatility of The Pavilion and the range of clients and events we are experienced in dealing with. We have a very strong reputation for weddings and conferences but we can handle a bit of surf, turf and mathematics as well!”

A major innovation The Pavilion now offers is an interactive virtual tour you can take of their facility via its website (

The tour explores the Pavilion from inside and out as is suitable for use by tablets and smartphones.

“This takes away the hassle of finding time to visit us when planning their event, although we do find people love any excuse to come to Kiama!”
