Expanding local government staff capacity*

The research and training work undertaken at the Centre for Local government at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS:CLG) includes topic areas designed to develop staff capacity for specialists and generalists.

The Centre’s research is free to use, has national relevance and often includes case studies or toolkits that can be adapted within councils to support officers in their roles. Training can also be provided to support the integration of research into specific council processes.

UTS:CLG can work with you to adapt the wide range of professional development courses and academic qualifications in public policy, management, leadership, evaluation and built environment, and create an accredited professional development program that meets the needs of your organisation. From service delivery, strategic planning, social planning, community development, community engagement to the principles and practice of local government and public policy, UTS:CLG can design and deliver training that appreciates the complexity of local government and how to meet the needs of local communities.

Upcoming short courses at UTS:CLG in Sydney in March include IAP2 Foundations in Public Participation, ABC of the BCA, Building Regulation and Focus on Community Engagement.

UTS:CLG is the nation’s premier, university-based teaching, research and consultancy centre dedicated to the advancement and sustainability of local government.  Visit clg.uts.edu.au or call (02) 9514 7884 for more information.
