Waste water upgrade

Whitsunday Regional Council has commenced Stage 2 of the Proserpine Waste Water Treatment Plant upgrade, after securing funding from the Queensland Government to deliver the project.

Mayor Jenny Whitney said the $7.6 million project will increase the capacity of the plant to accommodate the growing population of Proserpine and make high quality water available for irrigation purposes.

“Council was successful in obtaining $6 million in funding to support the delivery of this project from the Queensland Government, with the remaining $1.6 million required to complete the project being allocated in Council’s 2015/16 Budget.

“Works commenced on-site just before Christmas, with the project to be delivered in three stages between now and November 2017.
“After demolishing the redundant plant, we will then purchase the requisite dewatering equipment and then construct the plant upgrade.”

The new plant will introduce the production of Class A grade recycled water for use by the local agriculture industry and for recreational areas.
