2016 Heart Foundation Local Government Awards*

Recognising healthy communities.

The Heart Foundation Local Government Awards recognise and showcase councils that are working to improve heart health through building a sense of community, encouraging people to be physically active, be smoke-free and make healthy food choices.  

In 2015, the councils awarded nationally for best practice were:
Councils with populations less than 5000`National Winner – Cobar Shire Council (NSW)

Councils with populations 5000 – 25,000
National Winner – Mid Murray Council (SA)
Joint National Highly Commended – Ararat Rural City Council (VIC) and Swan Hill Rural City Council (VIC)

Councils with populations greater than 25,000
National Winner – City of Charles Sturt (SA)
Joint National Highly Commended – City of Cockburn (WA) and City of Whittlesea (VIC)

State and Territory winners include:
