Symbol of excellence
Mount Isa City lookout has been recognised by top travel website TripAdvisor as one of the best in the business.
The prestigious award can only be earned through consistently great reviews of the attraction, published on the world’s largest travel site.
Mayor Tony McGrady said the accomplishment is one to be proud of and a symbol of excellence in hospitality throughout the City.
“Again we are seeing more evidence that our city is becoming a more ‘liveable city’ and accolades such as this, from independent tourists; re-affirm that we have so much to offer.
“Something which will give heart to all of those advocates for the tourist industry in this city and the region in general.
“People all over the world are starting to realise what we as residents have always known, that we have something truly special and unique here in Mount Isa.”
Councillor Joyce McCulloch who is also chair of the Overlanders Way committee said it is nice to be recognised by TripAdvisor for the lookout because the concept is quite unique.
“Mount Isa has the heart of a city but its size allows us to keep that community feel, and visitors do pick up on that feeling whenever they come to town.
“It’s a great thing for Mount Isa, to be recognised means all types of people from all over the world have seen it and they have agreed that it’s an amazing place to experience.”
Tourist Jose Racheco said although his home country of Venezuela was not featured on the signposts atop the lookout, he was highly impressed with the facilities, the view and the friendliness of the community.
