The City of Holdfast Bay has been focusing on transforming its high-potential individuals into high-performing leaders.

‘ARISing Stars’, council’s emerging leaders program, is structured around the ‘ARISE’ values: Achievement, Respect, Innovation, Simplicity and Engagement.

The program aims to equip participants with an enhanced set of personal leadership skills to support both current roles and future leadership roles within Council.

It is designed to develop a greater level of self-awareness and a broader strategic understanding within the business.

While some of the project’s workshops are externally led, the majority are run by internal experts, providing a great opportunity for Council’s Senior Leadership Team to share their knowledge and experience. Program modules include:

  • Human Synergistics Tool – Life Styles Inventory (LSI)
  • values-based leadership
  • reviewing and assessing performance
  • coaching and giving feedback
  • managing change
  • goal setting
  • service delivery
  • managing poor performance.

Seven emerging leaders commenced the program in February 2014 and they were encouraged to participate in the 2014 Local Government Managers Australia (LGMA) Australasian Management Challenge team and attend the LGMA ‘Change under the Spotlight’ conference.

The next program will commence in February 2015 with a new group of ‘ARISing Stars’.
