Planet Footprint recognises high achievers*

From the 30th of June Planet Footprint will be allocating Gold, Silver or Bronze status to all Australian councils who are subscribed to Planet Footprint for the 2012-2013 Financial Year.

Two councils have already received Gold status for their continuous monitoring and management of energy and water costs, consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.  They have also successfully communicated sustainability issues, actions and achievements throughout the Council and wider community.

Eurobodalla Shire Council has worked consistently to reduce their environmental impact and have achieved some amazing results including a street lighting upgrade that will reduce electricity consumption by 28%, the installation of solar systems on three community buildings and a reduction in the emissions associated with their fleet by switching many larger cars to 4 cylinder vehicles.

Eurobodalla Shire Council has developed their Greenhouse Action Plan and will be relying on Planet Footprint data to help them measure, monitor and reduce emissions.

Mackay Regional Council routinely reviews Planet Footprint data to determine where investment in energy efficiency technologies is best spent and to act swiftly to correct any anomalies within their organisation.

In 2011 they established a Planet Footprint team to improve channels of communication consisting of the CEO, directors and key managers and staff and they utilise a number of communication methods to communicate their successes in improving sustainability.

With the 30th of June approaching fast, Planet Footprint encourages subscribes to contact their Service Manager to see how they’re tracking.  All recipients of the Gold Award will be published in the August edition of Local Government Focus.
