Water Alliance celebrating collaboration

The Cairns, Townsville, Mackay (CTM) Water Alliance has won the Collaboration Award at the recent Local Government Managers Australia (LGMA) 2013 Awards for Excellence.

Mackay Regional Council water and sewerage portfolio Councillor Frank Gilbert said the award recognised the collaborative approach undertaken by the three councils in forming the alliance.

“Since its inception in 2009, the CTM Alliance has collaborated to improve efficiencies, generate cost savings and deliver an improved level of service
to customers.

“In particular, this award was won for the work the CTM Alliance has done on the Best Practice Pricing and Financial Sustainability Model.

“The model enables a more accurate calculation of water and sewerage pricing and capital costs, providing financial sustainability for councils into the future.”

The award for CTM Alliance follows a 2011 LGMA Asset and Financial Management Award for the same Financial Sustainability Model.

Councillor Gilbert said the award also recognised the work the CTM Alliance had done on various issues facing the water businesses across the three councils.

“There has been a strong focus from the alliance to work with the state and other stakeholders about reform within the industry.

“The alliance also joins forces for bulk purchasing and trialling new technologies in order to improve efficiencies and secure savings through joint procurement.

“The group demonstrates excellence in the work that it does, providing many benefits to both the councils and the communities it serves.”
