Revitalising an Alice Springs icon

The Alice Springs Town Council (ASTC) has embarked on a major community development for the iconic Todd Mall.

The massive redevelopment, which is currently under construction, has been broken down into six projects, with an estimated total cost in excess of $15 million. The plans encompass the Todd Mall from Todd Street right through to Snow Kenna Reserve.

Thanks to $5 million in funding from the Northern Territory Government, ASTC Council was able to kick start the CBD Revitalisation in November 2012, beginning with Project 4: Parson St Biodiversity Corridor and Project 5: Todd Mall North. These two stages of the plan are now well underway and are expected to be complete by mid-2013.

Council CEO Rex Mooney said, “The works are progressing as planned and Council is asking the community to remain patient whilst the construction team do their best to minimise interruption.”

Mr Mooney has also encouraged residents and visitors to continue to support local businesses.

“The northern end of the Todd Mall and Parsons Street businesses will remain open during Mall works, so please continue to use, visit and shop in the Todd Mall.”

ASTC Mayor Damien Ryan is excited at the potential of this new community space: “The CBD Revitalisation is a massive project and one that will reward our community well into the future.

“Council is looking forward to this new public space and to reinvigorating our iconic Todd Mall.”
