Shire wins LivCom Award
The Serpentine Jarrahdale Shire has taken out second place in the prestigious LivCom Awards, in the Project Award (socio economic category), for its Plan for the Future.
Shire President Bruce Moore said that this year's awards, held in South Korea, attracted over 338 entrants from more than 50 countries around the world, with only 77 making it to the finalist stage.
"Just making it to the finals is in itself a great achievement as those chosen are deemed to have met or exceeded international best practice," Cr Moore said.
"I am very proud to see the Shire setting such high standards on an international stage in these UN-backed awards.
"The Plan for the Future outlines, in detail, what the community of Serpentine Jarrahdale aspire to be in the year 2025 and the objectives that we must achieve in order to move toward that vision.
"The Plan for the Future 2009-2014 was developed through extensive community consultation. Workshops, interviews and surveys revealed what our community value and it is these values that were used as the foundation for the plan.
"The Plan recognises that to be truly sustainable, we need to achieve a balance of economic growth, community development and environmental protection objectives for our Shire, while staying true to what our community values and retaining the unique, special beauty of Serpentine Jarrahdale Shire today and in the years ahead.
Importantly it outlines how we need to develop as an organisation to deliver the objectives and sets out a process for how the Shire's limited resources can be prioritised. The Plan will continue to lead the Shire's strategy and policy development and the allocation of resources for the next 5 years.
We know from stakeholder and community feedback – that there is a desire to understand our vision more, for us to promote our leadership and communicate more effectively … and this award gives us an ideal opportunity to do that and to let the community know we are on track to deliver a future for SJ that will be rich in beautiful places, people and opportunities.
"We can now confidently continue to implement the Plan for the Future knowing that SJ really is leading the way."
