Unley complex gets a facelift
Unley’s Tennis SA Millswood Complex received a major facelift earlier this year making it one of South Australia’s most popular venues.
The $172,000 facelift included the resurfacing of 12 tennis courts with a competition standard tru-blue surface, eight new nets and the erection of a shade cloth as well as new signage.
Unley Mayor Richard Thorne said the improvements will not only provide international standard facilities but also make the complex more attractive to the community.
“The complex at present is one of the premier tennis facilities in South Australia,” he said.
“By resurfacing the courts it will ensure that tennis events remain at Millswood and local players are serviced through a range of junior and senior competitions, as well as alternative tennis programs.
“The Millswood Tennis Complex is part of a larger surrounding sporting hub that includes Goodwood Oval and an adjacent hockey pitch.
“The courts now have an international standard competition surface, while the extensive shade area will make things much more user friendly for spectators and members of the Goodwood Tennis Club, which is based at the complex.
“Tennis SA has used the complex to benefit many young aspiring players, which has been supported by the build up of successful coaching programs and the State’s most successful night team tennis competition.”
Tennis SA runs many local activities at the complex including events that attract tennis players from around Australia.
In January, the complex hosted the WTC Classic
which attracted hundreds of young players from around
