Water for Life

‘Water for Life Sustainable Gardens’ in the Blue Mountains has been an extremely popular project.

Community members and local schools have been quick to see how the ‘Kitchen Garden in a Box’ idea is do-able.

Supported by community volunteers from the North Katoomba Community Organic Gardens and Cittaslow (Slow Food movement), ten local schools have participated in an eight week garden project from sow to harvest.

Funded by the New South Wales Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water, Blue Mountains Council has conducted workshops for over 1,200 participants, including outdoor classroom workshops for teachers.

Water wise gardening is vital for protecting natural areas beyond the garden fence, and participants also learn about embedded water – how much water is used to bring the vegetables to your table.
