Australian Government Regional Information Directory

Everything you wanted to know about Australian Government services – in one book!

With 640 entries, the 2005 Australian Government Regional Information Directory (formerly the Commonwealth Regional Information Directory) is the most comprehensive guide ever to the Government’s services for the millions of people who live in Australia’s regions.

The directory, which is available free on request, was recently launched by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Transport and Regional Services, John Anderson, and the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Transport and Regional Services, John Cobb.

“The directory is an important part of the Australian Government’s Regional Information Service (AGRIS), which helps bridge the information divide between people living in regional areas and people in the major cities,” the Deputy Prime Minister said. “More than nine out of ten people in regional Australia say that the service is valuable. It includes a free telephone information service – 1800 026 222 – which is staffed by trained operators in regional Australia, and our Regional Entry Point web site, www.regionalaustralia.gov.au.”

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Transport and Regional Services, John Cobb, said the Government would distribute the directory to community and industry organisations around Australia.

“It is an indispensable reference tool, used across the country by businesses, advisers, and not-for-profit organisations, because they know it has all the information they need in one place,” he said. “It’s all there, from the ABC Direct to Home satellite service for people in remote areas, to Young People in Rural Industries, our programme to provide training for the future leaders of our agriculture sector.”
