Future plan for Onslow
The popular coastal township of Onslow will undergo a facelift through the Onslow Townscape Plan. The Plan aims to create a new focus for township. It will develop community focal points, enhance existing facilities and identify additional needs.
Council has established an Advisory Committee comprising nine local residents, including tourist operators and business people, and two Council officers. Following community consultation they will prepare a draft plan. This will be displayed for public viewing and feedback. A final plan will then be presented to Council for ratification. Community participation is vital as Council wants to ensure there is wide ownership of the plan by Onslow residents.
Funding from the Pilbara Development Commission has enabled Council to engage a landscape architect to work on the plan with the Committee.
The primary focus will be town’s main street and foreshore area. Issues that the Committee aims to address through the plan include revamping of the town centre and adjacent surge wall; protecting heritage buildings; providing additional car parking and public amenities; enhancing foreshore areas and erecting a war memorial.
The plan also aims to enhance Onslow’s growing tourism potential. It will be completed early next year.
