‘Gearing up down under’

International Local Agenda 21 Conference

The Steering Committee for the Sustaining our Communities Conference invites you to attend this International Local Agenda 21 event to be held from 3 – 6 March 2002 at the Adelaide Convention Centre. The Conference will provide a timely forum to discuss Australia’s Local Government approaches to sustainable development and advise Australia’s input to the World Summit on Sustainable Development to be held in Johannesburg in September 2002.

The Conference will demonstrate by action how Local Government can best address sustainability issues and how successful partnerships can bring together people with diverse interests, and strengthen outcomes.

The conference program will feature international speakers with strategic experience in LA21 issues. Workshops stimulated by leading practitioners will address LA21 issues facing Australian Councils and communities, and an open dialogue workshop stream will build on innovative contributions from delegates.

The bid to host the Sustaining our Communities conference in Adelaide was a collective effort facilitated through the South Australian Partnership for Local Agenda 21 and involving a broad range of partners from Local and State Government, the private sector and non government organisations. These partners are committed to making the Conference a working demonstration of the application of the LA21 core principles of multi sectoral partnerships, collaboration and participatory decision making.
