Mow-A-CEO delivers dollars

At the recent 50th Anniversary Conference of the Institute of Municipal Management &endash; Qld Division, Executive Director, Tony Wehlow, told delegates that, following a successful fund raising effort by the Institute and its members and supporters, 'we are in a position to present a cheque for $33,000 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation'.

The Foundation's aim is to bring magic and joy to children with life threatening illness, by granting their most cherished wishes, and to create precious lasting memories for their families.

The fund raising project, launched at the 1999 State conference in Longreach, aimed initially to raise $7,000 for the Foundation. Support for the project saw this figure continually upgraded throughout the year, culminating in the $33,000 total.

The fundraiser was known as 'Mow-A-CEO'.

Seven Chief Executive Officers and supporters from Local Government in Queensland, including Tony Wehlow, Ray Currie, Colin O'Connor, John Wehlow, Gary Kellar, John Martin and Peter Stewart, were mown during the cheque presentation.

The mowing duties were undertaken by trainee hairdressers from Wynne-Hoelscher Academy Hairdressing. Such was the impact on delegates it was decided that the Institute would continue this magnificent event by supporting the Foundation or another suitable charity on an annual basis.
