  • Brisbane biodiesel trial reduces bus emissions*
    Neumann Petroleum’s E-Gen biodiesel can significantly reduce vehicle emissions, according to preliminary results from the Brisbane City Council’s CitySmart Biodiesel Bus Trial.
  • NSW Councils offer planning alternatives
    The Local Government and Shires Associations of New South Wales have put forward a number of alternative planning reforms which aim for faster development decisions without compromising the character of neighbourhoods or community input.
  • Perth hosts breakfast for PM and Ministers
    Perth’s Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said that a breakfast function on 21 January with Prime Minister Kevin Rudd at Council House was a great honour and she is confident that it represents the start of a strong working relationship with the new Federal Government for Perth and Western Australia.
  • Federal Cabinet announces overhaul of national infrastructure policy
    Meeting in Perth on 21 January, the Federal Cabinet approved the establishment of Infrastructure Australia. Legislation establishing Infrastructure Australia will be introduced during the first session of the new Parliament.
  • Funding key to addressing road safety
    Road funding for local road networks could play a key role in addressing road safety issues across Western Australia, with 68 per cent of serious crashes currently occurring on local roads.

    Located at the northern end of Port Phillip Bay in Melbourne, Hobsons Bay City Council has installed an innovative, environmentally friendly garden that uses rainwater to keep plants and grass watered, while filtering the runoff.
