Applications Open for 2018*

Master of Local Government Scholarship available

Applications for the University of Technology Sydney Institute for Public Policy and Governance (IPPG) postgraduate scholarship are now open for March 2018 start.

The scholarship has been designed to support local government and policy professionals seeking to broaden their knowledge and skills through postgraduate study. Open to new UTS Master of Local Government and Master of Applied Policy applicants, the scholarship recipient will receive a $5,000 scholarship over the course of their studies.

IPPG postgraduate courses are available in flexible block mode and online delivery, and allow students to opt for either part-time or full-time study.

The block mode study enables students from outside of Sydney to also enrol in UTS postgraduate courses. This is precisely what David Fahey OAM, Deputy Mayor of Narrandera Shire Council, has done. David, who was selected as the inaugural scholarship recipient earlier this year, lives in remote regional New South Wales and travels to UTS a few times a semester to attend lectures over two or three days.

David had been considering postgraduate local government studies for a few years.

“I had completed the Executive Certificate for Elected Members and wanted to continue to expand my knowledge of local government. I enjoyed completing the Certificate and it gave me some great new knowledge but I wanted to take my learning to the next level, so I finally applied for the UTS Master of Local Government course.”

“The more I have learnt the better I have become in my work. You can actually achieve something for the community because you know the procedures, policies and the background. You need to have in-depth knowledge of how to progress forward for the benefit of the whole community. I believe that with experience and sound knowledge of local government that many great things can be achieved.”
