Seeds of excellence
Logan’s Shailer Pioneer Park is regarded as one of Queensland’s best, having picked up an Award for Excellence in the Parks and Open Space Development category at the Parks and Leisure Australia (Qld Region) annual awards in May.
Local Councillor Darren Power (Division 10) was the driving force behind the park and said the State Award and National nomination was a fitting accolade for the popular facility.
“Shailer Pioneer Park is one of Logan’s newest and best parks and fully deserved the Award for Excellence.
“The park incorporates innovative design maximising open and green space, contains active play equipment, a skate park, barbeque facilities and tennis courts, making for an outstanding family-friendly package.
“The skate bowl is a sentimental feature of the park with the community strongly supporting it being named after fallen Australian digger Corporal Matthew Lambert, who was tragically killed serving in Afghanistan.
“Matthew was a keen local skater.”
Parks, Health, Environment and Sustainability Chairwoman, Cr Trevina Schwarz (Division 11), praised Shailer Pioneer Park staff and the positive reflection on Logan.
“Logan is known for its parks and green spaces and recognition at the Parks and Leisure Awards is reward for the efforts of dedicated staff who maintain the park, a great boost for Logan and reflection of the pride we have for our parks and green spaces.”
Shailer Pioneer Park is shortlisted for the National Parks and Leisure Awards to be held on August 27 as part of the National Conference.
