LGPro’s 2006 Annual Conference tackles the next generation

Future challenges facing Local Government will be the focus of LGPro’s 2006 Annual Conference to be held at Melbourne Park Function Centre from 15–17 February. Titled “The Next Generation” and proudly sponsored by McArthur Management Services and the Department for Victorian Communities, the conference will provide a high quality, informative program.

Following a Welcome Dinner in the Melbourne Town Hall on Wednesday 15 February, the next two days of the conference will feature keynote addresses by:

• political scientist, futurist and author Professor Sohail Inayatullah who will discuss the future of Local Governments and the impact of global trends, such as demographic shifts, new technologies and the oil crisis
• Michele Levine, Chief Executive of Roy Morgan Research, who will outline what people want and expect from Local Government
• Rob Gell, President of Greening Australia Victoria, who will discuss the role of Local Government in creating a sustainable society
• Generation Y expert, Peter Sheahan, who will examine how Councils can attract, manage and engage young talent.

Delegates will have the choice of attending workshop sessions on topics such as ageing, continuous improvement, service delivery models, planning and environmental sustainability. Thursday 16 February will feature the Gala Conference Dinner including the presentation of the 2006 LGPro Awards for Excellence. The final session of the conference program will be devoted to LGPro’s Emerging Leaders Program with a panel discussion on leadership, the presentation of the Emerging Leaders research topic, ‘Who Runs Local Government?’, and the announcement of the 2006 program participants.
