NSW Government approves ReAquaTMHyRate process*
The New South Wales Premier, Morris Iemma, recently announced government approval for the ReAqua™ Hyrate demonstration plant at Beverley Park Golf Course. He presented an official letter of approval from the Department of Energy, Utilities and Sustainability (DEUS) to Kogarah Municipal Council. The demonstration plant produces Class A product water and with this approval Kogarah Council is now diverting this water for reuse at its Beverley Park Golf Course.
The ReAqua™ HyRate is one of three reuse processes available from Copa Water. It is ideal for reuse on golf courses and other high volume water users due to its rapid treatment process and compact size.
The technology being used is one of four technologies developed and marketed by Copa Water for reuse of treated sewage effluent. This is the first time that sewage has been extracted from a Sydney Water sewerage main, purified and then reused as irrigation water on a golf course.
"The State Government is to be congratulated for its support for the project and likewise Kogarah Council and Sydney Water for their role in developing and supporting the project," said Ray Anderson, Managing Director Copa Water Pty Ltd. "When the full scale sewer mining facility at Beverley Park is implemented, it will provide guaranteed irrigation water during future droughts to protect the valuable assets of the golf playing public. More importantly it eliminates the need to rely on the ever diminishing supply of potable water from Sydney's dams."
Copa Water has been developing and trialing the ReAqua™ HyRate process for several years. The process extracts raw sewage and turns it into Class A water for application in areas with uncontrolled public access.
In addition to Premier Morris Iemma's visit, other NSW Ministers and more than 40 Australian Water Association members also visited the demonstration plant as part of the recent AWA symposium on water reuse. A plant of this size is capable of producing up to 150kL per day of clean Class A product water for reuse.
