New web resource for broadband in Victoria

The Victorian Government has created a new online resource, the Broadband Access Office, to help Victorians learn more about access to broadband technology in their homes, businesses and communities. Minister for Information and Communication Technology, Marsha Thomson, said the Broadband Access Office is Victoria’s one stop online shop for information on broadband.

“The Bracks Government has created the Broadband Access Office to ensure Victorians are well informed about broadband and the options available on the market,” she said. “The Broadband Access Office is a vital information resource for communities, Local Government and others wanting to get broadband services into their area. It is the A to Z of information on broadband issues – a comprehensive independent resource helping you choose the right broadband service for your needs.”

The site allows visitors to check broadband availability and demand region by region and provides assistance for those who cannot get broadband yet.

“It also provides information on how developers can help get broadband in new buildings,” Marsha Thomson said. “For businesses it gives information on helping to choose the right broadband service to suit their needs as well as a series of case studies that illustrate how communities can go about getting broadband in their area.”

The Broadband Access Office is an easily navigated website and contains a wealth of information, ranging from an explanation of broadband technologies to details of a whole range of broadband initiatives in metropolitan and regional Victoria.
