LivingITFollowing the success of Livingstone Shire Council in gaining national recognition for its IT Outreach Program in partnership with Learning Network Queensland, it is now embarking on its LivingIT partnership program through the development of a web presence for each of its small communities. The project, funded by the Queensland Department of Employment and Training, will build on the success of the Small Communities IT Outreach Program commenced in 2002/3. It is delivering training to small communities in the Shire, and will focus on training to a level where community members can develop their own world wide web presence, www.LivingIT.net.au. Training will initially commence in the Yeppoon, Marlborough and Stanage Bay communities as pilots from early May. Participants will contribute to the design and content of their own community web sites, the first of which will be up and running by the end of June 2004. Community Liaison Officer, Peter Scott, said the earlier IT outreach programs had been enormously successful with hundreds of participants now communicating through new technologies. “The approach has been particularly successful for rural women who make up the majority of the participants,” Peter Scott said. “In some cases, the participants are value adding to small home based and community enterprises in ways never considered before. This current project, also in partnership with Learning Network Queensland and the Department of Employment and Training, will have enormous benefits right across the Shire, with both social, cultural and economic benefits flowing to all of our small communities.” For further information contact Peter Scott on (07) 49399200 or email p.scott@livingstone.qld.gov.au |
