Austroads web site

Free access for local councils

Austroads has developed a new publications web site with all its publications available for online use. Austroads is the association of Australian and New Zealand road transport and traffic authorities, with Australian Local Government represented by the Australian Local Government Association (ALGA).

Austroads produces guides and research reports on a range of topics relating to roads, their design, construction and operation including pavement technology, road safety and traffic management.

The new site, accessible through the Austroads web site at www.austroads.com.au will contain all existing and future Austroads publications. Users will able to order and purchase publications online in either electronic or hardcopy format. They can also register to receive notifications on new releases and updates. The easy to navigate web site also has advanced searching capacity and links between related documents.

Austroads research reports will continue to be available for free electronic download. Other publications, including guides, will be available for purchase in either electronic or hardcopy formats. Existing hardcopy publications will also be available for purchase through the web site at existing prices. There will be a discount for electronic copies. Special purchasing arrangements will be put in place for Austroads members.

Austroads and ALGA have agreed to make all Austroads publications available free to councils throughout Australia in electronic format.

“Providing free online access by councils to Austroads material will be of major benefit to Local Government and particularly to their professional and technical staff,” said ALGA’s Chief Executive, Ian Chalmers. “There is a vast amount of material produced by Austroads which is of direct relevance to councils and they have not previously had such ready access to it.

We appreciate the efforts that Austroads has made to make their outputs more available to Local Government.”
