Waste Educators to meet in Melbourne on 2-3 March

A second National Waste Educator's Conference, titled Waste Educate 2000, will be held in Melbourne from 2-3 March 2000 at the Duxton Hotel. Waste Educate 98, which was held in Sydney, was the first national conference to focus on waste education It attracted 180 delegates from all states of Australia.

The registration fee for Waste Educate 2000 is $275 with accommodation at the venue $140 per day (including breakfast). In addition, a free pre conference bus tour of five waste education facilities will be held on 1 March.

The vision of Waste Educate 2000 will be 'to provide opportunities for Waste Managers and Educators to share insights, ideas and resources for the development of sustainable solutions to the waste management challenges facing all communities in the new millennium'.

Waste Educate 2000 is being hosted by Ecorecycle Victoria and the Beverage Industry Environment Council. Other major sponsors are Coca Cola Amatil, Visy Recycling and the NSW Waste Boards.

The Conference program is being developed by a committee of eight waste educators from Victoria. Some of the issues which will be addressed include:

  • Waste Education in NSW Waste Boards
  • Victoria's Wastewise program
  • Developments on Waste Education in New Zealand, South Australia and Western Australia
  • Waste Education in the 'business' sector
  • Construction & Demolition Waste Education
  • Waste Audits as a Waste Education tool
  • Marketing & Advertising
  • The National Packaging Covenant
  • Waste Education for Organics Waste Educate 2000 will be relevant to the following people:
  • Waste Region or Board Educators
  • Waste Managers
  • Councillors
  • Government Waste Educators
  • Community & School Waste Educators
  • Industry Waste Educators
