Call for entries for Annual Report Awards*Organisations committed to excellence, accuracy and responsibility in reporting to stakeholders should enter the prestigious 2000 Annual Report Awards (ARA). Some of Australia's largest publicly listed companies, as well as many government and not for profit organisations, have accepted the Awards as the benchmark for excellence in annual reporting. Patron of the ARA, Nick Greiner AC, said that by entering the Awards, organisations clearly demonstrate their commitment to quality in annual reporting. "With annual reports under continual scrutiny, it is imperative for organisation's with public stakeholders to produce a comprehensive document that is informative, accurate and in no way misleading," he said. The ARA criteria used to judge each report are unique, regarded by many as the most comprehensive in the world. The criteria have been developed and fine tuned over the years by industry professionals. Encouraging excellence in all aspects of annual reporting, the ARA has instituted four Special awards. Introduced this year, the Occupational Health and Safety award to promote the commitment to health and safety among Australian and offshore companies. It operates on the principle that what gets reported, gets measured and that what gets measured gets improved. Introduced in 1997, the Environmental Reporting Award recognises the important of informing stakeholders on their organisation's response to concerns in relation to the environment. The Communication Award was introduced in 1998 to encourage organisations to maximise the effectiveness of annual reports as a communication vehicle. Also presented for the first time was the Corporate Governance Award, which applauds quality and completeness of disclosure and reporting of corporate governance practices in annual reporting.
