Building on their achievements - last year's winnerOver 240 entries were received for the 1997 National Awards for Innovation in Local Government. The entries were of a high standard and the judging panels found that choosing the winners was a difficult task. Entries were initially judged by category panels comprising representatives of the Institute of Municipal Management (IMM), the Australian Local Government Association (ALGA) and the National Office of Local Government (NOLG). The winners of each category and other highly ranked projects were considered by the National Judging Panel which selected the winners of the National Award and the National Rural Award and also made a special commendation. The National Judging Panel was chaired by Mr Maurice Newman AM, and included representatives of the IMM, ALGA, the Australian Industrial Property Organisation and the NOLG. It is hoped that the publication of information about the winning entries in this supplement, and by other means such as the Internet, will inspire councils to enter this year's Awards. Full details of last year's Awards, including a summary of all entries received, is available through the Awards' Web site at http://www.nolg.gov.au Category Award - Information Technology Category Award - Organisational Practices Category Award - Engineering and Infrastructure Category Award - Leisure and Community Services |
