Manly launches conservation strategyThe launch of its Conservation Strategy as part of Heritage Week has built ecological sustainability into every facet of Manly Council's activities for the next 10 years. Mayor Sue Sacker describes the Strategy is a cutting edge document. "It paves the way for Manly Council to implement Ecologically Sustainable Development as recommended by the Rio Earth Summit's Agenda 21," she said. Sue congratulated Council's Conservation Strategy Management Group, chaired by Councillor Brad Gillieatt, and Council staff, for preparing such a comprehensive report. A skilled and experienced Scientific Advisory Panel will provide the Group with expert advice and assistance as it implements the Strategy. The Strategy covers six key action areas.
Support for the Strategy has come from NSW National Parks and Wildlife, Anglers Action Group, the Environment Protection Authority, Sydney Northern Beaches and Middle Harbour Catchment and Management Committees and members of the community. Copies of the Strategy are available from Skye Addison, telephone (02) 9976 1500. |
