Kempsey's CivicView has wide application for LGKempsey Shire Council in NSW, with a reputation for an excellent working knowledge of the application of geographic information systems in a Local Government framework, has recently launched a new software package called CivicView. Working with Insight Informatics, a company well known for its library IT package, Council established a joint venture to develop CivicView. The package is currently in use at Kempsey and Mid Coast Water. Other Councils are also looking at it for their own operations. Kempsey's Computer Services Manager, Campbell Petterson, said that technology has now evolved from mapping, into a complete package using a windows environment. CivicView a fully integrated modular system designed to meet a range of Council needs. These include financial applications, customer service, asset management, property matters and human resource management. The development CivicView has had the full support of Council. "We now have state of the art technology," Campbell said. "At a time when rural towns are depressed, this provides an added platform to employ skilled people." Campbell Petterson also believes it shows that rural areas are capable of finding high tech solutions for day to day operating issues applicable to Local Government anywhere. "We have proved you do not have to live in cities to develop these sort of products," he said. AURISA, the Spatial Information Association, has invited Campbell Petterson to present a paper on the Asset management applications of CivicView at its Annual International Conference to be staged in Perth later this year.
