Major world conference has important messages for LGLocal and State Government employees throughout Australia will have the opportunity to attend an international conference that will examine global developments in accessibility and transport for older people and people with disabilities. TRANSED '98 will be held in September in Perth. It is the first time this triennial event has been hosted in the Southern Hemisphere. The conference will address issues that are directly relevant to Local Government, particularly engineering and community service representatives, as well as transport departments. More than 100 papers will be presented by speakers from 30 countries. They will cover global transport and design issues, road safety and accessible environments. Preceding the international conference is a three day exhibition which will display the latest technological developments in the mobility and independent living area. It is expected that over 7,000 people will visit over the three day period. The event will be held at the Burswood Convention Centre, the exhibition from 18-20 September and conference from 21-24 September. Admission to the exhibition is free. Perth won the bid to host TRANSED '98 through the efforts of Indomed Pty Ltd and the assistance of the Department of Transport in Western Australia as well as the Perth Convention Bureau.
