Another opportunity to showcase the north coastIn October, the 1997 NSW Local Government Association's Annual Conference will be staged in Port Macquarie. In yet another opportunity to showcase the beautiful north coast, Coffs Harbour City Council is proud to have won the right to host the 1998 Conference. Planning for next year's event is already well under way. Coffs Harbour's growing reputation as a conference and convention centre was reaffirmed last year, when delegates voted to return in 1998. With breathtaking natural attributes and superb weather, Coffs Harbour is a growing, thriving City carefully balancing development with the preservation and protection of the area's pristine environment. As well as ample accommodation, ranging from several four star resorts through to backpacker and caravan parks, the area is very accessible with excellent road, rail and air services. Being staged from 17 to 21 October 1998, not only will delegates be able to enjoy beautiful sunshine, but the Conference coincides with one of the most popular months for whale watching. Coffs Harbour is now recognised as one of the best vantage points in New South Wales to see these magnificent creatures, passing close to shore, as they swim South after calving in the Hervey Bay area. As a regional event involving neighbouring Bellingen and Nambucca Shires, Conference organisers are confident delegates will not miss the opportunity to come early and stay later to experience all that the Holiday Coast has to offer. With the recent launch of the Conference mascot, designed by Councillor John Essex-Clark and incorporating the local media campaign, 'Proudly Coffs Harbour', the aim is to promote the fun side of the Conference. "While discussing key issues affecting Local Government as it strives to meet increasing community needs and expectations, we also want delegates, their partners and families to have an enjoyable and memorable time," said Councillor John Essex-Clark. "We have a great team organising the Conference and we are aiming for unassuming excellence, providing a smooth process, so people will not forget Coffs Harbour." |
